How will you be assessed?
The examination board is Edexcel for both A and AS level Further Mathematics. AS level is assessed by two examinations at the end of Year 12, whereas A level is assessed by four examinations at the end of Year 13.
Half of each course is Core Pure Mathematics, with the other half comprising of Decision Mathematics. You will be regularly assessed by your teacher with weekly homework and entrance tickets using past paper questions throughout the course.
What will I study?
You will study Core Pure Maths which builds on your knowledge of Pure Maths from the mathematics course, but also considers areas such as complex numbers, matrices and proof.
In addition, you will study Decision Mathematics, which is one of the newest areas of maths looking at networks and flows as well as linear programming.
How will this course support my future plans?
Further Mathematics is highly rated by universities and is also a course with a very strong academic pedigree in its own right. It has a major input to many other further education courses including Mathematics, computing, physics and other scientific areas of study. Additionally, Further Mathematics would be highly beneficial if you want to study for a degree in Engineering, Finance, Business and many other science and technical related courses.
