Who is this Qualification for?
The qualification aims to develop your skills, knowledge and understanding of the principles of IT and Global Information Systems. You will gain an insight into the IT sector as we investigate the pace of technological change, IT infrastructure, the flow of information on a global scale, and the importance of legal and security considerations.
How will you be assessed?

What will I study?
Over the 2 years of study you will complete the following units:
Unit 1: Fundamentals of IT: You will develop an in depth understanding of IT technologies and practices. These will include hardware, networks, software, the ethical use of computers and how businesses use IT.
Unit 2: Global Information: You will discover the uses of information in the public domain, globally, in the cloud and across the Internet. Gaining an understanding of legislation and governing information within organisations.
Unit 6: Application Design: In this unit you will explore potential ideas for a new application and develop the fundamental design for it. You will then develop the designs for an application and how users will interact with it. The application that you design can be for any sector and for any purpose. You will have the opportunity to present your ideas, prototype them, and gain feedback before refining your design.
Unit 9: Product Development: In this unit you will learn about different product design methodologies and the role of the product development life cycle. In addition, you will discover the factors that influence product developments.
Unit 21: Web design and Prototyping: In this unit you will research, design and produce an interactive, responsive website that is specific to a client’s needs, culminating in presenting the concept of the website using the prototype to the client. You will learn about the security risks in website design and how to minimise these threats.
How will this course support my future plans?
Achievement of this qualification can support you to go on to study relevant IT degrees in Higher Education institutions such as Computing and IT, Software Development/Engineering, ICT, Computer Networking or Business Information Systems. Additionally, it will benefit anyone who wants to progress into IT-related apprenticeships or employment.
