Further Speedway Success for Charlie!!

Unfortunately the weather got in the way of Charlies' British Youth demonstration race at the Kyle Howarth Testimonial Meeting at Sheffield on Thursday 14th March and the meeting was cancelled.

The good news was that Charlie was asked to ride in the National Junior League for Workington Meteors and was invited to a Press and Practice event at the Workington track on Saturday 23rd March. The main purpose of the event was for the professional riders to be introduced to the media and public so it was a great experience for Charlie to be involved in. The track was very grippy, which makes riding Charlie's style of bike quite challenging. Charlie came away from the day feeling that he had let the club and supporters down by not being bale to showcase his skills.....hold this thought as Speedway is very much a confidence sport because it is so dangerous, one mistake and you are into the fence at 30mph!

At the start of April, Charlie had his first Mascot Ride at Belle Vue, Manchester, the home of the National Speedway Stadium. Before going out for his solo ride, Charlie was advised by the track management to take it easy as the track was looking grippy. Spurred on by a large crowd, Charlie rode the track really well and looked fast. The crowd showed their appreciation which was amazing to witness.

A few days later, Charlie made his debut for his new National Junior League team at Redcar under floodlights. Charlie was tentative but rode with his head, scoring 4 vital points out of a possible 9, helping the team to victory. The return meeting last weekend, saw Charlie make his home debut for the Workington Meteors. Charlie was on fire and in full competitive mode. He raced hard and fast making some fantastic overtakes to score 8 points out of 9 with victory for the team. The following day Charlie was invited to a private practice session. As mentioned earlier, Speedway is a confidence sport. Within 4 practice laps Charlie was full throttle around the track. This is a massive but scary achievement. The brain tells you to shut the throttle off as you go into the corner, as it does when you are driving a car but to make it easier to slide you have to override it and keep it wound on. Charlie came off the track in total shock and could not believe what he had just done, he had the biggest smile ever seen.

May 3rd - Glasgow v Workington,
May 4th - Workington v Glasgow
May 11th - British Youth Round 1 - Workington
May 18th - Workington v Edinburgh
May 27th - Mascot Belle Vue
