Solutions Not Sides

It was great to welcome back the organisation Solutions Not Sides (SNS) since their last visit in 2019. The team delivered workshops to selected students in Y9, Y10 and Y13 on Wednesday 8th March in N6.
SNS is an organisation whose aim is to tackle Anti-Semitism, Islamophobia and polarisation around the issue of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the UK. The non- partisan programme has been formulated with the input of both Israelis and Palestinians as well as senior members of Jewish and Muslim communities, and is designed to prepare students to make positive, solution based contributions to debates on Israel-Palestine.
Finn R and Isaac C in Y12 gave the following feedback from the session they attended.
Isaac
The Solutions not Sides workshop was an incredible experience where we were given the chance to learn first-hand about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It was very insightful to listen to the opinions and feelings of those on both sides. It is very easy to take sides and I've learnt that a peaceful resolution to the conflict is the best way forward.

The discussions we had with the speakers were fascinating. Often, discourse around Israel/Palestine is framed around a bias of 'pro-Israel' or 'pro-Palestine', but what was reinforced by the two activists was that the only justifiable aim is peace. This experience has been incredibly worthwhile, giving me perspectives that would not normally be attained by reading about the topics in the media.

The Solution not Sides talk was extremely insightful, especially having the Palestinian and Israeli people there to share their own experiences and allowing us to ask them questions made it that much more eye opening.
Thank you to Haneen, Hazel and Danielle from Solutions Not Sides for visiting Bingley Grammar.
