Qualification structure/details of assessment
The Cambridge Technical in Sport and Physical Activity is a vocational unit based course. You will be assessed using a variety of methods, including formal exams, projects, case studies and practical assessment.
Extended Certificate - this is the equivalent to one A Level. This route contains the following units: Body Systems (external exam), Sports Coaching, Practical Sports, Sports Development (external exam) and Performance Analysis.
As part of the course you will be expected to coach/lead younger students in school as well as organising events that support sport and activity at BGS.
Over the two years you will complete two examination units and 3 coursework units. Practically you will need to be able to produce video evidence in a team sport and individual sport of your choice, along with being assessed as a sports official. All coursework units are marked internally, before being moderated externally. The type of work for the coursework units varies, and could include presentations, written work and practical work.
How will this course support my future plans?
This course develops skills that are important for employment and higher education both within and outside of the sports sector. You will develop your leadership skills, communication skills and time management. If you are considering a Sports related course at University this is the course for you. Many students go on to Higher Education, following routes such as Sport Coaching, Sports Development, Sports Science, Sports Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy. In addition, the variety included in the course would support a balanced set of post 16 qualifications.
